Location Quotient and Regional Specialization in Los Angeles County
The Bureau of Labor Statistics developed Location Quotients (LQs) to measure the concentration level of a particular industry, cluster, occupation, or demographic group in a region. LQs are ratios that allow an area’s distribution of employment by industry to be compared to a base area’s distribution. In particular, the industry in Los Angeles County has the same share of its area employment as the entire United States if the LQ is equal to 1.
From 2012 to 2015, the fashion industry maintains the highest LQ in Los Angeles County. However, it is important to note that the LQ for aerospace industry has increased by 0.63 unit in said time frame. On the other hand, the LQ for analytical instruments industry has decreased by 0.73 unit between 2012 and 2015.
