Public High School Graduation Rates by Ethnic & Racial Designation

Graph interpretation:
High school graduation rates among many minority groups are disproportionately lower than the rates of all students in the three captured regions, including Los Angeles Unified School District, Los Angeles County, and California.

Disparity exists:
It is important to note that education disparity is greatest among Asians, where certain groups such as Cambodian, Hmong, and Laotian have much lower graduation rates than their counterparts within the same racial designation.  For more information on education inequality within the racial designation, please read this article.

Technical details:
The featured categories correspond to the eight ethnic subgroups of California’s Academic Performance Index (API).

Propel L.A. uses the four-year cohort graduation rate in which the CA Department of Education began recording in the 2009-10 academic year.
