by Michael Terreri, Center for Sustainable Energy
As a member of the Advanced Transportation Center located at the Los Angeles County Economic Development Corporation office, the Center for Sustainable Energy (CSE) supports businesses and governments in the Southern California region with the implementation of clean transportation projects. CSE leads the Advanced Transportation Center’s work with private and public fleets in addition to working with property owners interested in installing charging infrastructure. As the Fleet and Infrastructure Project Manager at CSE, I see great demand for this work.
Each year, businesses and governments from across Southern California leverage the Advanced Transportation Center’s expertise to inform and support their clean transportation projects. It may be receiving assistance in selecting their first electric vehicle or, for large capital investments, getting advice in fleet replacement and fueling infrastructure.
Through the experience and expertise of CSE, the Advanced Transportation Center offers a wide variety of technical assistance services to organizations within the region. CSE provides, for example, a complimentary single-vehicle replacement analysis for fleets that reveals the cost savings of replacing conventional vehicles with an alternative fuel counterpart, as well as more comprehensive services, such as fleet-wide replacement analyses. The Center also assists organizations with siting analysis for electric vehicle chargers.
Initial clean transportation projects can be overwhelming, but technical assistance in the form of clear answers and actionable recommendations helps fleet operators and managers to walk through the process. Professional development opportunities and workshops also are an important part of what CSE provides.
CSE has hosted workshops on procurement and implementation, providing opportunities for area businesses and governments to learn best practices and to connect with nationally recognized experts. These events have served as occasions to meet and collaborate with peer organizations across the region.
The Advanced Transportation Center is well equipped with the resources and expertise necessary to assist organizations within the region throughout the course of clean transportation projects from planning to execution to monitoring. Organizations can stay informed of services and upcoming events by subscribing to newsletters or by reaching out directly to the Center with questions on its website at www.AdvancedTransportationCenter.org
